Starting our imperfect 42-time adventure with ‘One Zentangle a Day’

Slowing down with Day 1 (and 2) of the One Zentangle a Day book by Beckah Krahula

We did it—Day 1 and Day 2 together. We kinda cheated by combining the patterns for both days, but hey, remember, Zentangle isn't about sticking to rules anyway lol.

And it felt like a gentle exhale.

Ian and I both sat down with the book, tiles, pens and that little spark of anticipation. It’s fabulous how even the simplest patterns can bring a moment of calm.

The book kicks off with a trio of lovely starter tangles - Static, Tipple and Crescent Moon. Day 2 is Knightsbridge, Nekton and Fescu. They’re old favourites, but they still have this magical way of grounding you. I must be honest, though; I had a hard time with Crescent Moon when I started. I hated it! Not ideal when it's one of the first tangles you teach as a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher! What I learned is that I enjoy it when I draw it bigger, as you can see below in my tile on the right.

Here's what we created:

You can tell which one is Ian's because he has a spider chop!

What I loved most? Seeing the difference in our tiles. Same tangles. Two completely unique pieces. It’s such a beautiful reminder that Zentangle isn’t about perfection—it’s about process. About interpretation. About the quiet fun of putting pen to paper and simply seeing what unfolds.

We won’t be sharing the complete lessons here, because you really should get the book—it’s a total gem. You can find it here on Amazon*. Affiliate link alert: I may earn a small commission if you use it, at no cost to you.

So, we’re off. Not rushing. Not aiming for 42 in 42! Just moving gently through this gorgeous book and seeing where the tangles take us.

👠 Wanna play too?

Let me know if you’re joining in. Come and share your tiles in my Tangletastic Facebook group. We'd love to see what you create!
